Privacy? Really?
Does anyone else have any suspicions about upstart-search-engine Cuil‘s privacy policy, given that one of their founders was the Homeland Security officer for IBM, and another VP was the communications director for the U.S. House Select Committee on Homeland Security?
Perhaps I’ve just been warped by 7 years of DHS-led privacy invasions and “public-private partnerships” with the telcos, but I have a little trouble accepting claims of privacy from a company whose leaders have been playing in that sandbox.
I’m not claiming that Cuil is an NSA front, but the feds making their own “search engine” as a honeypot for the terrorists and other ne’er-do-wells might make for a decent conspiracy theory movie plot…
Now, please excuse me while I go find my tin-foil hat.
BTW, the search engine itself seems decently fast and has good links, but the grid layout of search results makes it too hard for me to scan the search results, and I’m disappointed with the number of results vs. Google for a few searches I did.
